A firm, white, boneless flesh fish.
School Shark is also commonly known as Flake.
Found among New Zealand's coastal waters, particularly in the North Island at depths of up to 200 metres.
School Sharks are more abundant inshore during spring and summer.
School Shark belong to the Triakidae family (Smooth Dogfish).
They are a pale brownish-grey above and white below with a slender body, flat snout and a broad tip to its upper tail lobe.
School Shark has a firm, white flesh.
School Shark is managed by the Ministry for Primary Industries using the New Zealand Quota Management System (QMS). Regular stock assessments are conducted to estimate fishery stock size and numbers. Scientific studies are also used. From these, scientists can estimate future stock sizes and catch limits.
