Talley’s is proudly New Zealand owned and operated. We run five deepsea fishing vessels with primarily Kiwi crews bringing the best New Zealand seafood to the world. Right now, we’re looking for experienced crew members who are interested in a career in deepsea fishing with Talley's.

You’ll earn great money on board our fleet of modern vessels, all with comfortable cabins, usually with an ènsuite. Most of our fleet also has an onboard gym, WIFI, and plenty of space to relax in your downtime.

And you don’t spend much on living when you’re out at sea. As well as an excellent opportunity to save, we provide ongoing specialized training opportunities that set you up with skills and qualifications that will set you up for life and take you anywhere in the world.

You will be a vital part of the crew, learning about the maintenance and functionality of the ships engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration, and sewage systems in accordance with Talley’s policies, local, and MNZ regulations.

As part of the role, you will assist the chief and second engineer with repairing and maintaining the ships engineering system. You will also be required to complete daily tasks and documentation to keep the systems running smoothly.

You will work towards obtaining a MEC5 as part of our training programme, with opportunities to progress within the company.

You would be at sea for 4-6 weeks at a time which means you will be working every day during the trip. You will be scheduled to one trip on, one trip off – and while you’re at home relaxing on your trip off, you’ll still be fully paid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all routine maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Studies all systems on board for the electrical power, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, sewage systems, and electrical equipment, to gain knowledge for maintenance.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Completes essential documentation daily.

Skills/Experience Needed:

  • Mechanical & Trade certified experience is preferred.
  • Fabrication skills desirable.
  • Experience in stainless steel tig welding, basic Hydraulics and Pneumatics’ is preferred but training can be given.
  • Problem-solving skills and a “can do” attitude.
  • Motivated and energetic team players who get on well with others, with a proven work history.
  • Proof of New Zealand citizenship, permanent residence, or currently be residing in New Zealand and have visa enabling you to work for a minimum of two years.
